Delivering Low Carbon Cities and Communities01/11/2007 ‘… I believe we must build our economies on a platform of economic growth, full employment and environmental care. We must make climate stability, energy investment and energy security central to economic policy.’Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP, Prime Minister
A one-day conference Delivering Low Carbon Cities and Communities was held on 23rd November 2007, following on from the Regional Forum, Wednesday 14 February 2007 With 50% of green house gases emitted from the urban built environment, this conference focused on opportunities and benefits for economic, social and environmental solutions.
‘… creating energy service companies will require a change of culture as well as incentives. It will require experimentation. That is why, in advance of regulatory changes, I want to model the energy service company model in our major towns and cities. We must begin to apply the energy service model within government, the public sector and business, before extending it to the household sector. The London Climate Change Agency is adapting the ESCO model developed in Woking. Over the next year, I want to work closely with each of the 8 core cities, and the RDAs, to explore the potential to set up ESCOs.’ Rt Hon David Miliband MP (formerly) Secretary of State for the Environment Who Should Attend Local Authorities (Cities, Towns and Municipalities), Property Owners, Developers, Schools, Universities, Housing Associations, Financiers and Investors, House Builders, Land Owners, Academics and Researchers, Engineers, Contractors, Planners, Surveyors, RDA Officers, Environmental Technology Companies and Solicitors. ‘… it is increasingly clear that technological developments are opening up the possibility of a more decentralised low carbon energy system with local energy supply, ranging from household to community-scale, which could play and important part in our strategy’ Department for Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (formerly the DTI), 2007 For further information on the programme for the day please click here.
