Enlargement Exhibition at Coventry TechnoCentre

Did you know that there are now 27 member states in the EU? Europe Direct-Coventry and Warwickshire held an exhibition on the recent enlargement of the European Union. The exhibition was a celebration of Europe Day, 9th May. The exhibition was designed to illustrate the recent growth of the EU and the benefits this offers to you as a citizen.

Romania and Bulgaria joined the European Union on 1st January 2007. They have both completed a long journey to meet the stringent membership conditions set out by the European Treaties.

They have had to prove that they have:

• a functioning democracy
• respect for human rights
• respect for the rule of law
• and have a market economy

The 2 countries bring a lot to the EU, from a rapidly growing economy to wonderful ski and beach resorts!

The exhibition ran from Friday 27th April until Friday 11th May at Coventry TechnoCentre, 1st floor atrium. A free map of the EU was available to all attendees.
